BJP national president Nitin Nabin has unveiled a new central team of office bearers, a reshuffle party insiders are calling “Team 2029,” designed to sharpen the organisation’s machinery well ahead of the politically crucial 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly election.

The Big Names Are Back
Smriti Irani returns to a national role as general secretary, joined by Ram Madhav as vice president and Piyush Goyal as treasurer. The wider list of 13 national vice presidents includes Vasundhara Raje Scindia, D Purandeshwari, Manpreet Singh Badal, Baijyant Jay Panda, and Tirath Singh Rawat, giving the team a mix of seasoned state leaders and central strategists. Six of the 13 vice president posts have gone to women.
Uttar Pradesh Gets Outsized Weight
Eight UP leaders have secured key positions, including national vice presidents Rekha Verma and Tariq Mansoor, and general secretary Harish Dwivedi. Amar Pal Maurya takes over as national OBC Morcha president and Kunwar Basit Ali as Minority Morcha president, both from UP, underlining the party’s continued focus on caste and minority outreach ahead of the state polls.
Who’s Been Dropped
The reshuffle wasn’t only additions. Amit Malviya and Bandi Sanjay Kumar have exited the central team, while Tejasvi Surya has also been replaced, with analysts suggesting the party wants more seasoned faces to manage its Gen Z outreach strategy.
Proactive or Reactive?
The scale and timing, coming soon after a separate reshuffle of the UP state unit that replaced all six regional presidents, suggests a deliberate, proactive build-up rather than a reaction to setbacks. With the Samajwadi Party doubling down on its PDA social coalition, BJP’s reshuffle looks aimed at matching that outreach seat by seat before the 2027 battle begins in earnest.
