On Wednesday, Nirmala Sitharaman, the minister of finance, gave the Parliament a presentation of the Union Budget for 2023. The Finance Minister declared that because cigarettes will be taxed at a higher rate, they would become more expensive.
“National Calamity Contingent Duty (NCCD) on specified cigarettes was last revised three years ago. This is proposed to be revised upwards by about 16 per cent,” FM Sitharaman said.
