Byelection for the Andheri (East) Assembly is won by Rutuja Latke of the Sena group.
According to news agency PTI, Shiv Sena candidate Rutuja Latke (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) won the Mumbai byelection for the Andheri (East) Assembly seat on Sunday.
After the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) withdrew its candidacy from the contest, the November 3 byelection—which was required owing to the passing of incumbent Shiv Sena MLA and Rutuja Latke's Ramesh Latke in May this year—became merely a formality.
This was Maharashtra's first election since the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government fell in June as a result of a rebellion by a group of Shiv Sena MLAs led by Eknath Shinde. In a subsequent coalition with the BJP, Shinde was elected chief minister.

The RJD frequently claims that Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM and Mayawati's BSP are the BJP's "B squad," although they came in third and fourth place, receiving more than 20,000 votes combined.
Notably, Indira Yadav, a candidate for the BSP, is married to Sadhu Yadav, the younger brother of Rabri Devi, the wife of RJD president Lalu Prasad. The seat had been won by Sadhu Yadav in 2000.
