CBI, ED demanding the same thing, Manish Sisodia’a lawyer argues extension of custody in court

Delhi’s former deputy chief minister and senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia was produced before the Rouse Avenue Court on Friday after his seven-day custody with Enforcement Directorate (ED) expired. He was first arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) last month in a now-scrapped Delhi’s excise policy scam. He was later arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the same case.

Is ED proxy agency of the CBI?: Manish Sisodia’s lawyer

The ED today sought further custody of the Delhi DY CM, which was argued by his lawyer saying the investigating agency needs to come up with something new. “They have to show the proceeds of the crime and how I am involved in all this. If they investigate for 7 months and then come to court seeking my remand, then what have you done?” Sisodia’s lawyer said.

Seeking Sisodia’s further custody, the Ed had told the court that the AAP leader failed to answer why he changed so many phones. Three people, including an IAS office and the excise commissioner, had questioned the Delhi DY CM.

Sisodia’s lawyer said that computer and phone of the AAP leader were earlier seized by the CBI, and now the ED is demanding the same thing.

Sisodia’s lawyer further said added that they have to show the proceeds of the crime, adding that CBI has already one the process. Are they proxy agency of the CBI?” Sisodia’s lawyer said.

Manish Sisodia’s arrest

Manish Sisodia was arrested by the CBI in connection with the scam in Delhi’s liquor policy. After CBI, the AAP leader was arrested by ED in the same case.

Meanwhile, the CBI had filed a fresh FIR against Sisodia on Thursday. Reacting to the same, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had said that it is PM Modi’s plan to keep Sisodia in custody for a long time. “Sad day for the country,” he had said.
