Since February 2026, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has said that the Class 10 board exam will be held twice a year. The National Education Policy 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework 2023 call for this big change.
Parts of the Exam: The first part will begin on the Tuesday after February 15 and end on March 1. From the middle of February to March 3, it will happen.
The second part should take place in April or May, so kids have another chance during the same school year.
On the first try, everyone will have to take part, but not on the second. They can pick which test to take, but only the best score will count toward their final grade.
What changed it?
This two-board setup is meant to:
- Make school less stressful.
- They should be given another chance to do better.
- Don't stress memorization; instead, push deeper, more important learning.
Notes for Implementation: The CBSE is working on the final rules that will be used after the 2025 board results are made public. The tests are expected to be taken by about 26.6 lakh kids in 2026. Different languages from around the world will be put together with the main ideas. Both parts will cover the same course, and the test fees may be different.
Statement from the minister and responses:
Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan agreed with the plan and said it would make kids feel better. The students liked the change because it was like how tough tests like JEE Main are set up. But teachers were worried about how to hold actual tests twice a year and how that would affect the building of the school.
Now that the CBSE's plan for adoption is over, the new format could change how board tests are given in India. This would make the system more fair, flexible, and student-friendly.
