The Central government on Monday has opposed a petition in the Apex Court seeking the priority in COVID-19 vaccination for judges, and the official staffs of the court.
In an affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court, Manohar Agnani, Additional Secretary of the Ministery of Health and Family Welfare has said that it will be discriminatory towards people of other professions to have such an order on vaccination.
“It may not be desirable to create a separate class consisting of lawyers and others below 45 years of age discriminating persons engaged in other trade, profession or business and working under similar geographic conditions and circumstances,” the affidavit said, according to Bar and Bench.
The petition was filed by a person named Arvind Singh, where it was stated that judiciary and lawyers should be regarded as the frontline warriors for the COVID-19.
The petition further also stated that the Central government gave any mechanism or criteria for the identification of priority groups.
