China is not deterring from its antics. Now a big conspiracy hatched against India by its hackers has been exposed. Intelligence firm ‘Recorded Future Inc’ said in a report released on Wednesday that China has targeted India’s power sector as part of its cyber espionage campaign.
Bloomberg has quoted a ‘Recorded Future’ report that state-sponsored Chinese hackers focused on at least 7 load dispatch centers in North India. The work of these centers is to carry out real-time operations for grid control and power supply in areas near the India-China border and Ladakh.
One of the load dispatch centers has already been attacked by another hacking group RedEcho. Recorded Future says that these hackers belong to a large hacking group. The US also believes that the hacking group is directly related to the Chinese government. The report states that prolonged attacks on Indian power grids by hacking groups affiliated with the Chinese government have resulted in limited economic espionage or conventional intelligence gathering.
According to the firm, through this information has been gathered around important infrastructures. It can also be used in future. Apart from the power sector, Chinese hackers have also targeted India’s National Emergency Response System and a subsidiary of a multinational logistics company. The name of the group that carried out the hacking is TAG-38. This group has used a dangerous software named ShadowPad to carry out their plans. The wires of this software have already been connected with the Chinese army.
Jonathan Kondra, senior manager of Recorded Future, said the methods used by hackers to infiltrate were unusual. He used many strange equipment and cameras. The devices through which the hackers carried out their plans were operating from South Korea and Taiwan. At the same time, when the Chinese Foreign Ministry was contacted about this, it refused to comment.
