Chinese Response to PM Modi’s Remarks

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, during a media briefing, acknowledged PM Modi’s comments. She highlighted the importance of maintaining stable and healthy relations between China and India, asserting that it serves the mutual interests of both nations and fosters peace and development in the region.

PM Modi’s Stance on India-China Relations

In an interview with Newsweek magazine, PM Modi underscored the significance of India’s relationship with China. He emphasized the urgency of addressing the prolonged tensions along the borders. PM Modi expressed optimism that through constructive engagement at diplomatic and military levels, both countries could restore and sustain peace along their borders.

Background of India-China Border Disputes

Tensions between India and China escalated following the Galwan clashes in 2020. Since then, multiple rounds of talks, both diplomatic and military, have been conducted to de-escalate the situation and withdraw troops from the disputed areas.

Chinese Perspective on Border Issue

Mao Ning stated that while the boundary question is a significant aspect of India-China relations, it should not overshadow the broader bilateral relationship. She emphasized the importance of managing the issue appropriately within the context of overall bilateral ties.

Mao highlighted that New Delhi and Beijing maintain close communication through diplomatic and military channels. She expressed hope that India would collaborate with China to address differences, enhance mutual trust, and steer bilateral relations toward stability and cooperation.
