China’s Strategic Move! Building Border Defence Villages Near Uttarakhand’s LAC

New Delhi: China has started constructing border defence villages close to Uttarakhand, according to reports. China and India are already embroiled in a protracted border dispute. 250 dwellings make up these border communities, which are being constructed 11 km from the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

Construction of 400 Villages along Uttarakhand Border Raises Concerns

Additionally, China participated in the construction of 55–56 homes that are still under People’s Liberation Army (PLA) control, 35 kilometres distant from the LAC and Uttarakhand. It intends to build 400 villages along the border alone in the eastern part. China and Uttarakhand are separated by 350 kilometres of border. A lack of chances for employment causes the majority of border settlements to experience outbound migration. These settlements are vast complexes with all the amenities. The LAC, which is the border between India and China, is where the Indian Army previously stated that it was keeping an eye on the situation.

Progress Made in Double-Laning Efforts

He stated that the Rs 2,000 crore project might start in four to five years. According to Goswami, “The BRO has kept the border road from Bundi to Garbiyang single lane in view of the proposed tunnel, while it will be double lane for the rest of it.” A Border Roads Organisation (BRO) officer claims that the border road, which was constructed in 2020, is currently being black-topped and double-laned. He said that the majority of the double-laning work had virtually been finished. The Indian Military expressed grave worries earlier in April on China’s extensive building in Bhutan’s Amo Chu river basin. The crucial Doklam plateau, from which China’s PLA can see the Indian Siliguri corridor, borders Amo Chu. Following the 2020 Galwan Valley conflict, which resulted in the deaths of 20 Indian soldiers, ties between India and China took a severe hit. Both nations have had numerous rounds of military negotiations to ease border tensions, with India stressing that the resolution of border disputes is necessary for the restoration of normal relations with China.
