Conrad Sangma sworn in as Meghalaya chief minister, PM Modi attends ceremony

Conrad Sangma: In the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bhartiya Janata Party national president JP Nadda, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Conrad Sangma was sworn in as the chief minister of Meghalaya for a second consecutive term on Tuesday.

M Ampareen Lyngdoh will serve in the new administration

Together with nine other ministers and his two deputies Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhaland Dhar, Governor Phagu Chauhan delivered the oath of office to Sangma. One woman minister, M Ampareen Lyngdoh, will serve in the new administration, which will be known as the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance 2.0. Rakkam A. Sangma, Marcuise M. Marak, AT Mondal, and Comingone Ymbon are additional members of the new government and are all members of Sangma’s National People’s Party (NPP).

AL Hek represents the BJP

Paul Lyngdoh and Kyrmen Shylla represent the United Democratic Party, while AL Hek represents the BJP. The Hill State People’s Democratic Party has chosen Shakliar Warjri to fill the position. The BJP and NPP ran independently in the assembly elections last month, but afterwards formed an agreement to create the new administration. The BJP was able to win two seats, while the NPP increased its total from the 20 seats it won in 2018 to 25, falling short of a majority in the 60-member house.

PM Modi travelled to Meghalaya via Guwahati

Prior to his two-day trip to the northeast, PM Modi travelled to Meghalaya via Guwahati in order to attend the swearing-in ceremonies for the new governments in Nagaland and Tripura. The prime minister will now proceed to Kohima, where Neiphiu Rio will assume office as the new chief minister of Nagaland today for a fifth term. In the recent assembly elections, the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party and its allies BJP won 37 of the 60 seats.

Meeting will cover the Assam’s developmental plans

PM Modi will travel to Agartala on Wednesday to take part in the inauguration of the BJP-led administration in Tripura. After Manik Saha was chosen again to lead the party’s parliamentary team on Monday, the BJP declared its intention to establish the government in Tripura. On Wednesday, PM Modi will take a flight back to Guwahati and preside over a meeting of the Group of Ministers. The meeting will cover the development and application of Assam’s developmental plans.
