Coronavirus: Goa extends curfew till June 21

 To keep the Covid arrest in check, the Goa government on Saturday extended the ongoing Covid-induced curfew by one week till June 21. As per the earlier guidelines, the curfew was to last till June 14. However, the government has allowed some relaxations while it imposes new guidelines to tackle the surge in the coastal state.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant took to Twitter on late Saturday evening and announced that the state government has decided to the extend the curfew till 7 am of June 21.

He said that shops, including panchayat and municipal markets, have been permitted to open between 7 am to 3 pm.

"The Goa government has decided to extend the state level curfew till 7 am of June 21. Shops, including panchayat and municipal markets, may open between 7 am to 3 pm. Besides, only 50 guests are allowed in a marriage function," Chief Minister Pramod Sawant tweeted. He also added that a detailed order would be issued by the district administration soon.

The state first imposed the curfew on May 9 following surge in Covid cases and deaths.

Goa had reported 472 new cases of coronavirus on Saturday, taking the overall caseload in the state to 1,62,048. With 15 more people dying due to the virus on Saturday, the cumulative death toll in the state has reached 2,914.
