Coronavirus: India records 37,593 fresh cases & 648 deaths in the last 24 hours

New Delhi: India reported 37,593 fresh covid cases in the last 24-hour, inclining 47.6 percent higher than yesterday’s figure, 25,467. The country also reported 648 deaths in the same time span, which is a huge jump from 354 deaths reported a day before. 

The national capital, Delhi, reported 151 fresh covid cases and zero deaths in the last 24 hours. As many as 114 patients got recovered in past one day.

Kerala continued leading the states in daily covid cases. The state reported 24,296 fresh cases and 173 deaths, the most deaths in a day by any state after Maharashtra which reported 4,355 cases and 288 deaths, in the last 24 hours.

Tamil Nadu recorded 1,585 total cases, Karnataka reported 1,259 and Andhra Pradesh reported 1,248 covid cases in the last 24 hours.

India’s first homegrown mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccine, being developed by Gennova Biopharmaceuticals, was approved for further clinical trials after the shot was found to be safe and effective in an early-stage study, on Tuesday.

“COVID-19 in India may be entering some kind of stage of endemicity where there is low or moderate level of transmission going on,” said the Chief Scientist of the World Health Organization, Dr Soumya Swaminathan. “The endemic stage is when a population learns to live with a virus,” she added.

The national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 97.67 per cent. An increase of 2,776 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours. 

The world reported 214,009,822 fresh coronavirus cases, 4,465,591 deaths and 191,508,200 recoveries in the last 24 hours.
