Covid-19: PM Modi to assess the situation as 4 cases of Omicron sub-variant detected in India

Covid-19: On Thursday afternoon, a high-level conference to examine the Covid-19 situation and the nation’s readiness to combat the threat that the lethal virus, which is said to have initially arisen in China, poses to humanity, will be presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. After reviewing the situation and urging people to act in a Covid-appropriate manner, including donning masks in crowded locations and receiving shots, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya called the meeting the day before. According to official sources, random samples of international travellers travelling from China and other countries will be tested at airports.

Since four cases of the BF.7 Omicron sub-variant, which is thought to be responsible for the current outbreak of illnesses in China, have been documented in India in recent months, it is crucial that this be done. According to sources, there are currently 10 different Covid-19 types in the nation, with BF.7 being the newest. Two of the Omicron subvariant’s four cases have been found in Gujarat and two in Odisha. According to PTI, both patients in Gujarat who had a history of international travel have made a full recovery.

Union Health Minister urged individuals to adopt Covid-appropriate behaviour

-The Union Health Minister urged individuals to adopt Covid-appropriate behaviour and receive Covid-19 vaccinations. He emphasised that the pandemic is still ongoing and urged officials to prepare for any challenges and increase surveillance. The additional chief secretary of health Manoj Agarwal reported that the central government briefed all states on the increasing trend of Covid-19 variants in some parts of the world and asked them to make sure that whole genome sequencing is done in all states. This comes amid a rise in Covid-19 cases globally. 

-Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya emphasised the need for ongoing surveillance while admonishing that “Covid-19 is not gone yet.” According to official sources, random sample testing will be done at airports for travellers arriving from China and other nations. In addition to urging citizens to get booster doses, the government has urged wearing masks in busy areas. It also recommended safeguards for the elderly and those with comorbid conditions.

-States have been told by the federal government to ensure genome sequencing of all positive cases nationwide. The Health Ministry’s INSACOG, a group that analyses and keeps track of various coronavirus strains, has requested that all positive patients’ Covid samples be sent to its labs.

Alarming increase in the number of Covid cases

-In China, Japan, South Korea, France, and the United States, there has been an alarming increase in the number of Covid cases. The novel Omicron sub-variant BF.7, which has also been found in four Indian states, is being held responsible for the increase.

-The novel Omicron subvariant BF.7 has a shorter incubation period and is known to spread quickly. A sub-lineage of the Omicron variation BA.5, BF.7 is extremely contagious, has a speedier incubation time, and has a greater ability to reinfect or infect even people who have had vaccinations. Over the past 24 hours, the nation reported 129 new infections, and there are already 3,408 active cases. There was one death reported.
