In past 24 hours, 10,093 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in India. The number of new cases is still over 10,000. There are 57,542 active cases in India as of April 16, 2023 at 8:00 am IST.
Since the start of the pandemic, as many as 4,42,29,459 people who were infected with Covid-19 have been released. There have been 6,248 recoveries in the previous 24 hours. There have been 5,31,114 Covid-19 deaths reported thus far.
According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the current recovery rate is 98.68%, and the death rate is 1.19%.
Both the daily and weekly positive rates are 5.61% and 4.78% respectively.
Over 92.4 billion tests have been performed in total to date. There were 1,79,853 tests conducted the day before. Up to 2,20,66,26,324 doses of the Covid-19 vaccination have been given thus far.
Despite the fact that over 90% of the population of the nation has received a Covid-19 vaccination, incidences of the virus have been increasing in India since late February. This is due to the fact that, according to specialists, the XBB.1.16 Omicron subvariant of SARS-CoV-2 is more contagious than previous SARS-CoV-2 strains and has evolved the ability to evade the protection provided by Covid-19 vaccinations.
