Covid-19 update: India reports below 3 lakh cases for the first time in 25 days

In a heave of relief, India’s daily covid figures dropped below the 3-lakh mark for the first time in nearly a month.

In the last 24 hours, the country reported 2,81,386 new cases of coronavirus, a number lowest in 25 days, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said. In the same time, the country also reported 4,106 fatalitie the ministry added

India’s total tally of Covid-19 cases now stands at 2,49,65,463 with 35,16,997 active cases and 2,74,390 deaths so far.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 31,64,23,658 samples have been tested up to May 16 for Covid-19. Of these 15,73,515 samples were tested on Sunday.
According to the Health Ministry, a total of 3,78,741 people have been discharged in the last 24 hours, with 2,11,74,076 being cured from Covid till date.

The Health Ministry said that a total of 18,29,26,460 people have been vaccinated so far in the country, including 6,91,211 who were administered vaccines in the last 24 hours.

*Noted virologist Shahid Jameel quit as the head of INSACOG, a central government panel which conducts genome sequencing of coronavirus.
*The Uttarakhand health department has given strict instructions to hospitals to provide data of COVID-19 deaths to the State Control Room on the same day.

*Delhi: COVID19 patients at Sardar Patel Covid Care Centre, Radha Soami Beas, Chhatarpur participate in morning yoga and meditation sessions. It was followed by a round of wards by Stress Counsellors of ITBP, ANI reported.

*Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday announced that nine medical oxygen plants have been approved for Ghaziabad and three for adjoining Gautam Buddh Nagar district.

Meanwhile, the overall global Covid-19 caseload has topped 162.7 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 3.37 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
