Covid-19 update: India’s total tally crosses 2 crore mark

Despite a marginal drop in the Covid-19 cases, the situation across the county continue to grow worrisome as hospitals continue to cry a crisis of life-saving resources such as oxygen. With 3,57,229 fresh cases recorded in last 24 hours, the total caseload in the county has crossed the grim milestone of 2 crore and currently stands at 2,02,82,833, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said here on Tuesday.

Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi are the 10 states that have been the top contributor of the daily cases.

The country on Tuesday received more international aid as consignments of oxygen concentrators, ventilators, and other medical equipment arrived, the foreign spokesperson said.

India currently has 34,47,133 active cases. According to MoHFW, a total of 3,20,289 people have been discharged in the last 24 hours after getting cured.

A total number 15,89,32,921 people have been vaccinated so far in the country, including 17,08,390, who were administered vaccines in the last 24 hours, the health ministry informed.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 29,33,10,779 samples have been tested up to Monday (May 3) for Covid-19, of these 16,63,742 samples were tested on Monday.

Meanwhile, the overall global Covid-19 caseload has topped 153.1 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 3.20 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
