Covid: 38,628 fresh cases in India in 24-hour

India on Saturday reported 38,628 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday. The daily positivity rate remained less than 3 per cent for the last 12 days. The weekly positivity rate remained below 5 per cent and is currently at 2.39 per cent. The cumulative caseload in the country reached 3,18,95,385 including 4,12,153 active infections.

The active cases constitute only 1.29 per cent of the total infections. Recoveries in the country has reached 3,10,55,861 with 40,017 patients recovering in the last 24 hours pushed the overall recoveries. At present, India’s recovery rate now stands at 97.37 per cent.

Kerala, which remains a concern with most number of Covid cases in a day, reported 22,040 cases. It also reported 117 deaths.

The country recorded 4,27,371 deaths due to COVID-19, of which 617 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours. The testing capacity has substantially ramped up and so far 47.83 crore tests have been conducted.

India crossed a significant milestone of administering 50 crore vaccine doses under a nationwide vaccination drive. With 49,55,138 vaccinations in the last 24 hours, India has so far administered a total of 50,10,09,609 doses.

“India’s fight against COVID-19 receives a strong impetus. Vaccination numbers cross the 50 crore mark. We hope to build on these numbers and ensure our citizens are vaccinated under #SabkoVaccineMuftVaccine movement,” PM Modi said in a tweet on Saturday.

Serum Institute of India CEO Adar Poonawalla on Friday said he is hopeful that Covovax, another COVID-19 vaccine being manufactured by his company in India, will be launched in October for adults and for children by the first quarter of 2022. He also thanked the Government of India for their unwavering support in the process of vaccine manufacturing.

Meanwhile, the global coronavirus caseload has topped 201 million, while the deaths have soared high to more than 4,27 million and vaccinations have reached to over 4.34 billion, according to Johns Hopkins university.
