India reported a single-day surge of 34,703 new coronavirus infections, the lowest in 111 days, taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 3,06,19,932, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. With 553 new fatalities, the death toll climbed to 4,03,281.
The health experts and SBI on Monday warned against third wave of coronavirus infections, saying it could hit the nation by next month. Meanwhile, death reported today are country's lowest in 91 days.
The active cases have further declined to 4,64,357, the lowest in 101 days, and comprise 1.52 per cent of the total infections.
The national COVID-19 recovery rate has improved to 97.17 per cent. A net decline of 17,714 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.
A total of 51,864 people have been discharged in the last 24 hours, taking the total discharge to 2,97,52,294 till date, according to the Ministry.
The Ministry said that a total of 35,75,53,612 people have been vaccinated so far in the country, including 45,82,246 who were administered vaccines in the last 24 hours.
A total of 50.09 lakh people in Uttar Pradesh have become fully vaccinated against the pandemic virus. Over 8.38 lakh vaccinations took place on Monday alone, the state government said on Monday.
Maharashtra leads the list with 69.85 lakh fully vaccinated population, followed by Gujarat and West Bengal where more than 60.8 lakh and 56.7 lakh people have been fully jabbed.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, 42,14,24,881 samples have been tested up to July 5 for Covid-19. Of these 16,47,424 samples were tested on Monday.
