Covid update: India reports 80,834 new cases, lowest in 71 days

India has logged in 80,834 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, the lowest in 71 days, since April 1, according to data from the Union Health Ministry. In the same time span, the country also saw 3,303 more people succumbing to Covid related complications. This is for the 8th straight day that the country has reported below 1 lakh cases.

The daily positivity rate at 4.25% also stayed below 10% for 20 consecutive days. The recovery rate also improved to 95.26% as 1,32,062 patients recovered in the last 24 hours.

India had an active caseload of 10.26 lakh, witnessing a daily decline of 54,532, as per the information updated by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Affairs on its website on Sunday morning.

India’s overall tally of Covid-19 cases now stands at 2,94,39,989 with 10,26,159 active cases and 3,70,384 deaths so far.

Tamil Nadu contributed 15,108 cases to the country’s daily numbers. It was followed by neighbouring Kerala (13,832 cases) and Maharashtra (10,697 cases).

A total of 1,32,062 patients were discharged yesterday, taking the overall number of recuperated people to 2,80,43,446.

37,81,32,474 samples tested for Covid-19, up to June 12, 2021. Of these, 19,00,312 samples were tested yesterday, says Indian Council of Medical Research (ANI)

The Health Ministry said that a total of 25,31,95,048 people have been vaccinated so far in the country, including 34,84,239 who were administered vaccines in the last 24 hours.

The overall global Covid-19 caseload has topped 175.5 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 3.79 million.
