The incident came to light after a routine security check conducted post-session, which uncovered the money in seat number 222, currently allotted to Singhvi.
Jagdeep Dhankar Directs Inquiry into Rajya Sabha Incident
Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar addressed the House, informing the members of the incident. He stated, “I hereby inform the members that during the routine anti-sabotage check of the chamber after the adjournment of the House yesterday, a wad of currency notes was found at seat number 222, currently allocated to Abhishek Manu Singhvi.” Dhankhar emphasized that the matter was promptly brought to his attention and has been handed over for a detailed investigation.
Abhishek Manu Singhvi Responds to Allegations
In response to the discovery, Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi expressed disbelief, stating he was unaware of any such occurrence. Singhvi explained that his presence in the Rajya Sabha on the day of the incident was brief, with only three minutes spent in the House before the session adjourned. He further clarified that he had lunch in the canteen from 1 pm to 1:30 pm, following which he left Parliament. Singhvi found the situation to be “bizarre” and urged for a thorough inquiry into how such a situation arose. He also highlighted the need for measures to secure MPs' seats to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Singhvi stressed the seriousness of the matter, noting that if there were lapses in security, they must be thoroughly addressed. He suggested that a comprehensive investigation should focus on ensuring that such incidents do not occur again, calling it crucial for the credibility of the institution.
