Cyclone Yaas: PM Modi announces Rs 1k financial aid post aerial survey

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday undertook an aerial survey to review the damages caused by the severe cyclonic storm ‘Yaas’ in Odisha and West Bengal.

Assuring all the possible aid to people affected by the cyclone, the Prime Minister announced financial assistance of Rs 1,000 crore for immediate relief activities. Of this, Rs 500 crore would be given to Odisha, while the remaining amount would be allotted to West Bengal and Jharkhand on the basis of the extent of damage.

“Modi announced a financial assistance of Rs 1000 crore for immediate relief activities. Rs 500 crore would be immediately given to Odisha. Another Rs 500 crores has been announced for West Bengal and Jharkhand, which will be released on the basis of the damage,” the PMO said.

“The Union government will deploy an inter-ministerial team to visit the states to assess the extent of damage, based on which further assistance will be given,” the statement further said.

PM Modi also announced Rs 2 lakh for the families of people who died due to the Cyclone-led incidents. For the injured, PM Modi has allotted Rs 50,000. 

“The prime minister assured the people of Odisha, West Bengal and Jharkhand that the Union government would closely work with the state governments at this difficult time, extend all possible assistance for restoration and rebuilding of the infrastructure in the affected areas,” PMO stated.

The statement from PM Modi’s office further stated that he appreciated the “preparedness and disaster management activities undertaken by the government of Odisha which has resulted in minimal lost of lives”.
