AIMIM leader: AIMIM leader Waris Pathan has alleged that the incident of of stone hitting a window of Vande Bharat Express on Monday was “stone pelting”. All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi was travelling in the train when the incident occurred. Waris Pathan said Owaisi along with the party’s Gujarat president Sabir Kabliwala and other AIMIM leaders was travelling from Ahmedabad to Surat when stone was pelted. The train’s window glass was damaged in the incident.

Pathan tweets

Pathan shared the pictures of the cracked window glass and tweeted in Hindi: “This evening when we along with Asaduddin Owaisi sir, Sabir Kabliwala Sahab and AIMIM national team were travelling in ‘Vande Bharat Express’ train from Ahmedabad to Surat, some unidentified people broke the glass by pelting stones on the train!”

However, Superintendent of Police, Western Railway, Rajesh Parmar on Tuesday refuted the AIMIM charge and said it was not a case of stone-pelting. Construction work was underway on the track near Ankleshwar in Bharuch district when some “grit” hit the train’s glass window, he said.

“It was not a case of stone-pelting,” the official said, adding that Owaisi was sitting away from the window.

Probe is on

The cracked window was changed, and an officer of the level of deputy superintendent of police (DySP) was conducting a probe into the incident, he said.

He said that six jawans of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and three of the Government Railway Police (GRP) were present at all four doors of the coach in which Owaisi was travelling, adding, “The train was running slow as engineering work was underway there. The window developed a crack as something hit it, although it was not a case of stone-pelting.”

“The engineering department said some grit flew and hit the window glass. The window was changed. A DySP-level officer is investigating the incident,” Parmar added.

A statement from the CPRO said that a stone had hit the train but there was “no damage on the inner side of the glass”.
