Near the interstate bus terminus in Delhi's Kashmere Gate on Monday night, two men threw stones at a woman driving an Uber cab and made an attempt to rob her, leaving her with severe injuries.

The victim has been named as Priyanka, a resident of Delhi's Samaypur Badli. In a conversation with Aaj Tak/India Today, Priyanka said that on January 9 she was driving slowly toward ISBT because of heavy fog while responding to a customer's call. When two men entered the car in front of her and smashed the window with a stone, she was just 100 metres from the customer. According to Priyanka, a piece of glass shards fell on her body after the stone hit her head.

Priyanka said that as she stepped out of the car to see what had happened, the two males approached her and took any cash she was carrying. The other snatched her phone as one of them grabbed her hand. She claimed, "I plucked up the courage and snatched my phone back."

Priyanka alleged that the two men even tried to snatch her car keys and flee in the vehicle. "I told them the car does not belong to me. When I started shouting loudly, one of them attacked me with a beer bottle. I sustained injuries on my neck and chest," said the Uber driver. Priyanka said she got 10 stitches in her neck and body.

Attempted calling User's emergency number

Priyanka asserted that she attempted calling Uber's emergency number and repeatedly pressed the panic button offered there but received no response. Priyanka claimed that despite stopping numerous vehicles on the road, nobody helped her. One and a half hours after the event, the police showed up.

"I had pressed my throat with a cloth to prevent the bleeding. After the police arrived, they sat me in a PRC van and rushed me to a hospital," said Priyanka adding that it was around 6am the next day when she received a call from an ambulance service, which asked her if she would be requiring the facility.

"My family members brought me home. I was not conscious at the time hence, I did not lodge a complaint," she said.

According to Kashmere Gate police, they were told of the attempted robbery in a call they received at around two in the morning on January 10.

When a police team arrived at the scene, they found Priyanka bleeding from the neck. Two males attempted to snatch Priyanka's phone while smashing the window of her taxi with a stone, she reported to the police. According to the police, Priyanka declined to lodge a complaint.

The FIR was filed under Section 393 of the IPC (attempt to commit robbery) by Kashmere Gate police, who had taken suo-moto cognizance of the incident.

Uber has not yet issued a statement, but whenever it does, the story will be updated.
