Delhi budget session begins on stormy note, three BJP MLAs marshalled out

The Budget session of the Delhi assembly, which commenced today, was stalled after a ruckus between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The AAP members and BJP leaders were seen rising slogans against each other before Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena’s address to the House on Friday. The LG could not deliver his speech due to the constant ruckus between the two parties.

The BJP demanded the resignation of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over the alleged corruption charges in the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy. Meanwhile, the AAP leaders were seen protesting against the saffron outfit when the Delhi LG began his address. Speaker Ram Niwas Goel tried to bring the house in order and had to marshal three BJP MLAs Jitendra Mahajan, Anil Bajpai and OP Sharma.

Delhi Budget

The budget of Delhi government will be presented on March 21 for the financial year 2023-24. Delhi Finance Minister Kailash Gehlot will present the budget in Assembly, and has been holding meetings with the officers daily in the same regard.

With this budget, the AAP aims to focus on infrastructure development. The government is expected to introduce at least 30 new projects including double-decker flyovers, underpasses and bridges with the motive to decongest the National Capital.

“The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government wants to upgrade and beautify 1,400km of the entire public works department (PWD) road network. Around ₹20,000 crore over a period of 10 years will be spent for the entire project. The government has completed 28 flyovers/underpasses till date now, and another 30 major projects including flyover, underpasses, bridges will be constructed by the Arvind Kejriwal government. Three unique double decker flyovers will also be constructed in Delhi. On these double decker structures, vehicles will ply on the lower deck and Metro will run on the upper deck,” a senior officer said.
