With the rising pollution levels, BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel cars have been banned from the roads of Delhi. The Delhi Transport Department issued its order on Monday. Those ignoring the rules will have to pay a fine of Rs 20,000. The department will once again assess the level of pollution on December 9. If conditions are favourable, restrictions can be relaxed.

Earlier on Sunday, the Central Air Quality Commission (CAQM) had issued guidelines for implementing the third phase of GRAP in Delhi and NCR cities after pollution moved into the dark red zone on Sunday. On Monday, the Delhi government has issued an order in this regard.
According to the order of the Transport Department, BS-||| petrol and BS-IV diesel cars have been banned from plying on the roads with immediate effect even after the implementation of the third phase of GRAP. At present, the ban will remain in force till December 9 or the fall of the grape stage.
Cars have been banned under Section-115 of the Motor Vehicles Act-1988
After the implementation of the third phase of GRAP, cars have been banned under Section-115 of the Motor Vehicles Act-1988. During this, teams will be deployed to take action against those who ignore the rules. During this, 10 year old diesel and 15 year old petrol cars if seen on the roads will be confiscated.
It is important that the number of BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel vehicles in Delhi is around five lakh. The reduction in the number of cars from the roads is also expected to improve the pollution level.
