Delhi High Court Relief for Raghav Chadha! Can Stay in Government Bungalow

This article focuses on the Delhi High Court's decision to uphold Raghav Chadha's government residence despite the Rajya Sabha Secretariat's attempt to have him removed. Chadha is a member of the Aam Aadmi Party.

Raghav Chadha

Raghav Chadha, a member of the Aam Aadmi Party, can remain in his government house and is not required to leave it, the Delhi High Court said on Tuesday, overturning a decision made by the Patiala House court. The Rajya Sabha Secretariat was able to remove Raghav Chadha from a government home after the Delhi High Court accepted his appeal against the trial verdict.

Legal Battle Over Government Housing Allocation

The Rajya Sabha Secretariat revoked the MP’s allocation to a Type-VII bungalow in Delhi’s Pandara Road in March. He was informed that the allocation had been cancelled because Type-VII was more expensive than what he was entitled to as a rookie MP and that he had been given another flat instead. Raghav Chadha then filed a lawsuit against the RS Secretariat at Delhi’s Patiala House Courts, and in April he was successful in stopping the confiscation.

Raghav Chadha’s Government Housing Battle

The Rajya Sabha Secretariat then filed a petition in opposition to Chadha’s plea, claiming that the secretariat could not have been heard by the court before the ruling was issued. In July 2022, Raghav Chadha received a Type-VI home. He sought the Rajya Sabha Chairman in August 2022 to request Type-VII accommodations. He was then given a Type-VII home on Pandara Road in Delhi for housing.
