Delhi Murder Case: Police submit massive 6629 page chargesheet within 75 days, Aftab asks for new legal representative

Delhi Murder Case: On Tuesday, the Delhi Police submitted a massive 6,629-page chargesheet in the murder case of Shardhha Walkar, who was brutally killed and dismembered by her boyfriend. Despite the heinous nature of the crime, the chargesheet was completed and submitted within 75 days of the incident.

Over 100 witnesses included in chargesheet

The accused, Aaftab Amin Poonawala, expressed his desire to acquire a new legal representative and contested the delivery of the chargesheet to his current lawyer. The charge sheet is said to contain evidence from 100 witnesses, as well as a combination of forensic and electronic evidence. Aaftab appeared before the court via video conference and his legal custody has been extended until February 7th.

Aaftab Poonawala admitted to the police that he strangled his partner Shraddha, and then proceeded to cut her body into 35 pieces. He stored the remains in a fridge at his residence in South Delhi’s Mehrauli, before disposing of them in a nearby jungle over a period of several days.

The bones recovered from the Chhatarpur forests and DNA reports confirming the remains as belonging to Shraddha Walkar will be included in the chargesheet.

Aftab had earlier confessed for murder

In addition, Aaftab’s confession and the results of a narco test will also be included, although they may not carry significant weight in court. Poonawala’s confession alone would not be enough for a conviction from a prosecution standpoint.

Following Aaftab’s arrest by the Delhi Police on November 12 of last year, the shocking circumstances of Walkar’s murder rocked the whole country. Shraddha Walkar’s corpse was cut into 35 pieces using a saw-like device, according to the postmortem report of her bones.

From the apartment where Walkar was slain last year, Delhi Police have also retrieved a saw, many knives, and numerous other items.
