Delhi-NCR Pollution: Primary Schools to Resume from November 9, Remote Work to Halt as the Air Quality Improves

Delhi-NCR Pollution: Environment Minister Gopal Rai stated on Monday that primary schools in Delhi will reopen on November 9 as the air quality in the Delhi NCR has marginally improved. The prohibition on senior students participating in open activities is also being lifted.

All offices to be fully operational

He also said that the guidelines for government workers who wish to work from home have been changed, and that starting on Monday, all offices will be fully operational. Additionally, the restriction on vehicles entering Delhi has been eased. The minister stated that the prohibition on BS III private petrol four-wheelers and BS IV diesel vehicles will nevertheless remain in effect.

Rai added that while phase 3 bans will remain in effect, phase 4 bans of the CAQM instructions are being lifted.

The prohibition on construction work on highway, road, flyover, overbridge, pipeline, and power transmissions has also been lifted by the Delhi government. The minister stated that private construction and demolition projects will still be prohibited.

Following an improvement in the air quality index (AQI) for the national capital region earlier on Sunday, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) withdrew stage 4 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).

Class 1 to 8 schools in neighbouring Noida will also reopen on November 9.

The final step of GRAP's truck entry ban and the ban on the operation of non-BS VI diesel light motor vehicles in the region were both commanded to be lifted by the Centre's air quality panel on Sunday.

Due in large part to favourable wind conditions and a decrease in the contribution from stubble burning, Delhi's 24-hour average air quality index increased from 447 on Friday to 381 on Saturday and then to 339 on Sunday.
