Delhi: The National Tribal Festival, also known as “Aadi Mahotsav,” was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday. The festival is being held at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in the national capital. The Prime Minister paid tribute to the tribal freedom fighter, Birsa Munda, who belonged to the Munda tribe. Munda was a prominent leader who led a millennial movement across the tribal belt of modern-day Bihar and Jharkhand during British rule in the late 19th century. The Aadi Mahotsav, which celebrates the spirit of tribal culture, crafts, cuisine, commerce, and traditional art, is being organized by the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation Limited (TRIFED) under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

Birsa Munda’s birth anniversary is celebrated as Birsa Munda Jayanti in the country, coinciding with the Jharkhand Foundation Day. The festival, which will continue from February 16 to 27, will feature over 200 stalls showcasing the rich and diverse heritage of tribes from all over the country. More than 1,000 tribal artisans are expected to participate in the event. The program aims to promote tribal art, culture, and tradition while providing a platform for tribal communities to display their handicrafts and products. The festival is an annual initiative of TRIFED and aims to provide a boost to the tribal economy by promoting tribal enterprises and entrepreneurship.
