Delhi Police busts international fake call centre scam, arrests six for cheating foreign nationals

New Delhi: The Delhi Police recently busted an international fake call centre by arresting six people who were allegedly cheating foreign nationals on the pretext of booking flight tickets. The accused, who were operating from a shop in Munirka, were identified as Muddhlu, Maghimai Leslee, Aman Setia, John Benedict, Jaison Joseph, and Vicky JohnThe suspects were using Anydesk and Zoiper to hide their digital footprints and communicate securely via encrypted calls, which were discovered by the police. According to the police, they received a tip-off last week about the call centre and sent a team of Special Staff officers to the spot, leading to the arrests.

Huge Database of International Numbers

The police discovered that the suspect had access to a massive database containing international phone numbers. They would cheat people by persuading and motivating them to buy flight tickets from their platforms on the pretext of heavy discounts available. Once the customers agreed, the accused would direct them to share their card details and OTPs received, which they would use to gain access and deduct money. The police are currently interrogating the accused about the scam and the money they cheated.

Sophisticated Technologies Used

The police discovered various high-end applications including Zoiper, Viber, and Anydesk as well as multiple VPNs being used to run the fake call centre after further research. The accused were making encrypted calls to foreign nationals using the Zoiper app, which made it challenging for the police to track them down. They were also using Anydesk to secure their digital footprints, making it challenging for the police to trace their online activities.
