Delhi Traffic Police issues advisory ahead of mahapanchayat at Jantar Mantar

The Delhi Traffic Police has issued a traffic advisory for commuters as a mahapanchayat is being held on Sunday at Jantar Mantar. To ensure a smooth flow of traffic, commuters have been asked to avoid certain roads and take alternate routes.

The Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) and other farmers’ groups are organising a ‘Mahapanchayat’ today in order to raise voices over their pending demand of proper implementation of Minimum Support Price (MSP) amidst other things.

The mahapanchayat is scheduled to start at 10 am on August 22, 2022 at Jantar Mantar. It says that a gathering of nearly 4000-5000 people is expected.

The Delhi Police said the gathering of the farmers can cause traffic problems and untoward incidents can take place. It has deployed a large number of personnel in border areas and put up barricades.

Special Commissioner of Police, Law and Order, Dependra Pathak, said that they have requested the farmers to go back.

Police officials said that they got to know that Sanyukt Kisan Morcha and various farmer groups had planned to organise a mahapanchayat at Jantar Mantar.

Meanwhile, Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait was Sunday detained by the Delhi Police while entering the national capital to participate in a protest against unemployment in the country.

A Delhi Police official said Tikat was stopped at Ghazipur while he was on his way to Jantar Mantar.

“Thereafter, he was detained and taken to Madhu Vihar police station where the police spoke to him and requested him to return,” he said.
