The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has gone into overdrive after the unfortunate Air India crash incident on June 12, 2025, in Ahmedabad, which took away 260 human lives. The regulator now wants mandatory checks on fuel switches of some Boeing 737 and the Dreamliner Boeing 787 operating in India.
Why Has the DGCA Ordered This Inspection?
The directive is based on a preliminary report conducted by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), which indicated that the fuel cutoff switches had been inadvertently shifted to the CUTOFF position, which led to engine failure in the middle of the flight.
Deadline for Compliance: July 21, 2025
The DGCA, in its official statement, has instructed all the airline operators to ensure that the inspection of engine fuel switches is finished by July 21, 2025. Moreover, the regulators of aviation in the field have been directing the required adjustments to aircraft, engines, and parts according to the airworthiness directives that the state of design or manufacture of the plane has presented.
Which Aircraft Are Affected?
The directive issued by the DGCA is mainly aimed at:
1. Boeing 737 Series
2 . Dreamliner Series Boeing 787
The operators of these aircraft in the airline industry should take quick steps to abide by the authority and safety of passengers.
