DRDO Cruise Missile: On April 18, 2024, off the coast of Odisha, the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) successfully tested the Indigenous Technology Cruise Missile (ITCM) in flight from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur. All of the subsystems operated as expected throughout the test. Several range sensors, including telemetry, radar, and electro-optical tracking systems (EOTS) placed at various points along the flight path by ITR, were used to track the missile’s performance. The Indian Air Force‘s Su-30Mk-I aircraft also tracked the missile’s trajectory.
Low Altitude Sea-Skimming Flight
The missile displayed very low altitude sea-skimming flight and used way point navigation to follow the intended course. This successful flight test has also demonstrated the indigenous propulsion system’s dependable performance, which was created by Bengaluru’s Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE).
To provide improved and dependable performance, the missile is additionally outfitted with cutting-edge avionics and software. The Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE), a DRDO laboratory located near Bengaluru, is developing the missile with assistance from other labs and Indian industry. Numerous senior scientists from different DRDO facilities as well as representatives from the production partner observed the test.
