DY Chandrachud says collegium system for judges as the most appropriate system

Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on Saturday at the India Today Conclave called the collegium system for judges as the most appropriate system.

He said that every system is not perfect but this system made by him is the best. His aim was to protect the independence of the judiciary, which is a core value. To make the judiciary independent, the judiciary has to be protected from outside influences.

During the conclave, Chief Justice Chandrachud answered many questions ranging from trolling to judiciary.

Law Minister Kiren Rijiju had raised many questions regarding this system. In response to this, the CJI said that the perceptions of both of them are different. He does not want to get involved in issues with the Law Minister. He said that Rijiju is very much against the collegium system and once he even called this system ‘alien’ to the Indian Constitution.

There is no pressure from the government on the judiciary

The CJI said that there is no pressure from the government regarding the cases. He has been in this journey for 23 years and till now he has not been pressurized for any case. The decision of the Election Commission is the proof that there is no pressure on the judiciary. The Supreme Court recently ruled that all election commissioners will be appointed by the President. And this will be done by the advice of the Prime Minister and his committee.
