Earthquake of 5.9 magnitude jolts Afghanistan, shocks felt in Delhi-NCR and Jammu & Kashmir

Earthquake: Tremors were detected in New Delhi and other parts of the National Capital Region (NCR) after a 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan late Thursday. The epicentre was 79 kilometres south of Fayzabad in Afghanistan, according to the National Centre for Seismology.

Delhi-NCR is classified as an earthquake-prone area

Delhi-NCR is now classified as an earthquake-prone area. If there is a strong earthquake, there will be widespread devastation; it is difficult to conceive the devastation. As a result, now that the ground has shook so violently in Delhi-NCR, people have grown terrified, and they have begun to fear great danger.

The tremors were detected around the country at various times, including on New Year's Day. The measuring was 3.2 on the Richter scale struck Nongpoh, Meghalaya, at 11:28 p.m. on January 1. The earthquake's epicenter was then 10 kilometres above ground at Nongpoh. Previously, multiple tremors were felt within two and a half hours from Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand to Nepal on the night of December 27-28. The earthquake's first tremor was detected in Nepal's Baglung district. The earthquake's second tremor was then felt in the vicinity of Khunga. It had a magnitude of 5.3 on the Richter scale.
