The Election Commission has banned the distribution of saris and shirts as gifts during election rallies. Also said that government and non-government educational institutions including their grounds should not be used for rallies. Moreover, during the election period all political parties should be given equal space for advertisements.

Caps, masks, scarves can be used

The Election Commission issued a statement saying that any party or party candidate can use caps, masks, scarves in rallies and padyatras. The use of these publicity materials prepared by the party or candidate will not be prohibited. But in rallies, sarees and shirts will not be distributed on behalf of the party or the candidate. Any agency has already been singled out for further allocation to individual clients.

Ban on wall writing and posters

The commission also said that all parties should be given equal space for advertising in public areas. But in private places, restrictions like writing on walls, putting up posters should be followed under local law. Political parties should not do so even if the property owner gives permission to put up paintings or posters at these places. The Commission has categorically stated that nothing provocative or incitement to discontent among the community shall be permitted in such writings and performances.

All political parties and candidates will get equal place

The Commission said that if a specially earmarked space has been provided for display of advertisement in a public place and if such space has already been let out to an agency for further allotment to individual customers, then in this case District Election Officer through the concerned municipal authority. Ensure that all political parties and candidates have equal opportunity of access to such advertising space.
