EPFO Updates: EPFO Registers 18 Lakh Unorganised Workers

EPFO Updates: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation has successfully enrolled over 18.6 lakh workers from the unorganised sector in the Nashik region.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Yojana introduced by the Union ministry of labour and employment, the unorganised sector workers’ pension is to be disbursed by LIC India.

These workers, who are in the 18-40 years age group and have a monthly income of below Rs. 15,000, will receive a pension worth Rs. 3,000 per month after the age of 60. They will have to pay monthly installments in the range of Rs 50 and 200 according to their respective ages.

The EPFO is facilitating the government for enrolment of unorganised workers like rickshaw drivers, vegetable vendors, hawkers, farmers, milk vendors, etc.

According to Anil Kumar Pritam, the regional commissioner of Nashik region EPFO, there are still over 10 lakh such workers in the division and the officials have fixed a target of registering all such workers. The intent is to provide financial relief to these workers after the age of 60 years, said the officials.

The scheme was introduced by the Central Government in 2019, but its implementation had been delayed for the past two years due to the covid-19 pandemic. However, the Nashik regional EPFO official has now put focus on the enrollment of unorganised workers.

Of the 18.6 lakh unorganised workers, a maximum (almost 6 lakh) have been enrolled in the Jalgaon district, 4.3 lakh in Nashik, 3.9 lakh in Ahmednagar, and the remaining in Nandurbar and Dhule districts.
