As a part of their protest against the controversial farm laws introduced by the Central government, the heads of 32 farmer unions on Monday started a hunger strike from 8 am. However, leaders of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan), have refrained from taking part in the strike. “We will not participate (in one-day hunger strike),” Sukhdev Singh, Punjab general secretary of BKU Ekta Ugrahan, told PTI.
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal is also observing the strike along with fathers. He also asked people to join the initiative and urged people to pray for its success.
“Fasting is good for health. Please fast to support our farmer brothers irrespective of wherever you are located. Pray for the success of their movement. They’ll definitely emerge victorious in the end,” he said in a tweet.
Govt is misleading everyone on MSP. Home Minister Amit Shah replied to us during 8th Dec meet that they can’t buy all 23 crops at MSP as its costs Rs 17 lakhs crores. : Gurnam Singh Chaduni, President, Bhartiya Kisan Union (Haryana) told ANI.
Union agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar, on Monday, said that protest is being monitored by “anti-Modi” elements and not farmers.
“The government has successfully initiated dialogue but the farmers’ union have not been able to reach at a unanimous decision. The news which have emerged in the last two days are astounding. Those who believe in the Left ideology are influencing these protests. Attempts are being made to release traitors. This is condemnable and these elements are stopping the movement from arriving at a verdict. And these elements are not farmers, but those who are against Modi,” he told Hindustan Times.
Meanwhile, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Monday hit back at Punjab CM Amarinder Singh who had called his hunger strike a show off. The Delhi CM said that he is “sevadar” of farmers unlike CM Amarinder Singh who has urged ED to go easy on his son.
