A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered in Bengaluru against social media users for circulating a fake, morphed video involving Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The video allegedly used a distorted image of Rahul Gandhi in an attempt to malign his image and spread derogatory content about Indian women, particularly those from Bihar.

The FIR, numbered 0170/2025, was filed at High Grounds Police Station under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, invoking Sections 192, 336(4), and 353. The complaint was lodged by Priyanka Devi C M, a 25-year-old teacher, who accused individuals of posting and resharing the video with malicious intent.

The complaint specifically names Ratan Ranjan, an ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) user from Vaishali, Bihar, as the primary accused. His post allegedly featured Rahul Gandhi's morphed image with a misleading caption:

“Bahar cover tak to theek tha lekin aap ye andar kya kar rahe hain, ye to galat hai Rahul ji, ye dekho, ye aap andar kya kar rahe hain.”

The FIR also mentions Arun Yadav (@ArunKosli) and several others who reshared the video, including users @MrSinha, @AdvSunilSharma_, @Siddharth_00001, and @rishibagree.

The complainant claimed that the fake video was not only defamatory towards Rahul Gandhi but also disrespectful towards the dignity of Indian women, particularly those from Bihar, as it allegedly showed Gandhi handling a sanitary pad in a derogatory context.

The complainant claimed that the fake video was not only defamatory towards Rahul Gandhi

The police noted that the FIR was registered after legal consultation, and the matter is under investigation. The offensive content has raised concerns about deepfake technology, political misinformation, and gender-based trolling on social media platforms.

Authorities are now working to trace the origins and the full extent of the video’s circulation, and legal action is likely against those responsible for creating and amplifying the misleading content.
