India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is going on a quick visit to Moscow on November 8 as the Ukraine-Russia conflict escalates. External Affairs Minister Jaishankar is on his way to Russia on November 8 for a meeting with Sergei Lavrov, amid growing global concerns about escalation of conflict in Ukraine.
Jaishankar’s planned visit to Russia comes at a time when speculations are rife about the annual summit. However, there has been no statement from either side regarding the summit. The summit was to be hosted by Russia in 2022.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in Moscow on Thursday that Lavrov would hold talks with Jaishankar next month and discuss “the current state of bilateral relations and the international agenda”.
There has been no official statement from the Indian side regarding the visit. However, according to people familiar with the matter, Jaishankar’s visit is expected to be very short and include meetings with Lavrov and other prominent Russian officials.
