Fugitive Godman Nithyanda’s antics and forays since he fled India

Self-styled fugitive godman Nithyanda has been in news in recent times, due to the presence of his representative and the remark she made in the United Nation’s event. He had fled India in 2019 after being accused of rape and kidnapping. While in India he heading a religious organization, called Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam and ran several ashrams across the country.

Due to his alleged involvement in the rape case, the police are on his hot trail. There have been news, that he has bought an island off the coast of Ecuador , where it is believed that he has established a country which he has called “United States of Kailasa”.

Criminal cases filed against Nithyananda

Nithyanda has been a controversial guru and there have been a spate of cases against him which have hit the headlines of Newspapers in India. He has had many brushes with the law. Below are the series of criminal cases which are a proof towards his infamy

In 2010, a viral video was circulated which purportedly showed him engaging him in sexual acts with a women. In his defense, godman has said that he was “practicing the Shavasana” and claimed that he was impotent.

Nithyanada was arrested from Solan district of Himachal Pradesh on April 21, 2010 only to be let off on bail the same year.

He was also accused by a US based women, who claimed to have been Nithyananda’s disciple between 2004 and 2009 and alleged that he had been abused for five years.

Reports also emerged about death of young women , Sangeetha Arjunan from his ashram. Her family claimed that she had been tortured.

Making children collect donations

  • In November 2019, Gujarat Police had booked Nithyananda after a couple from Tamil Nadu moved Guajarat High Court, alleging that their children were being held in illegal confinement at his Ahmedabad ashram.
  • Nithyananda was also booked on charges of kidnapping and wrongful confinement of Children “to make them collect donations from followers”
  • Also accused of abducting and confining a 19-year old women
  • Two women and minor were being tortured too.

Nithyananda , The fugitive and his Kailasa

There have reports surfaced that Nithyananda has founded a new country, “United States of Kailasa” on an island of Ecuador in South America. Nithyananda has called his country Kailasa, and claims to be the representative of “two billion Hindus”.

However Ecuadorain Government has revealed that Nithyananda was not in their country.

Website of Kailasa says it is a movement

”founded and spearheaded by members of the Hindu Adi Shaivite minority community from Canada, the United States, and other countries”.

Further, the website says,

“created for and offers a safe haven to all the world’s practicing, aspiring or persecuted Hindus, irrespective of race, gender, sect, caste, or creed” for them to “peacefully live and express their spirituality, arts, and culture free from denigration, interference and violence”.

Status of Country Kailasa : Real or Illusion

Nithyananda and his follower are very active on social media and they regularly post updates on Kailasa country and its location.

Infact there is no visual about the country ever posted on Social Media , ‘Kailasa’ also claims that it has got recognition from different countries.

In the meantime Twitter handle for United States of Kailasa has even called applications for e-visa for e-citizenship. ‘Kailasa’ also claims to have its own flag, constitution, economic system and passport.

What is a country

According to Montevideo Convention of 1933, which had established definition of a state under international law : To be called a country , any terriotory must have a government , a permanent population and the ability to foster relationships with other nations.

Nithyananda has also sent representatives of ‘Kailasa’ to the UN to gain recognition , but the UN has stated that submissions made by Vijayapriya Nithyananda will not considred in the final draft outcome.
