Gig Workers’ Strike: Zomato & Swiggy Try To Woo Gig Workers
Zomato introduced a series of social media advertisements featuring top actress Tamannaah Bhatia, saying delivery partners could earn as much as Rs. 6,000 by working on December 31 and January 1.
In another development, Swiggy enlisted Amitach Bachchan offered a free electric vehicle to gig workers who complete deliveries during the December 31 and January 1 period.
Shaik Salauddin, National General Secretary of the Indian Federation of App-based Transport Workers, said at least 1.5 lakh delivery agents will take part in the nationwide protests.
Karnataka Workers’ Union
Inayath Ali, president of the Karnataka App-based Workers Union, remarked at least 20,000 workers will participate in Karnataka alone, especially in Bengaluru and Mysuru. Ali added there will be no physical gathering or protest. He also commented that delivery partners will be simply logging out of the apps during the period of nationwide strike.
