Goa becomes first Har Ghar Jal Certified state

The Goa administration was praised on Friday by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for being the first state to be certified as a Har Ghar Jal, meaning every home had a piped water connection. He said in a virtual speech that Dadra Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, both Union Territories, had also accomplished the accomplishment.

“Today 10 crore rural households of the country have been connected to piped clean water facility. This is a big success of the government’s campaign to deliver water to every household. This is a great example of Sabka Prayas (everyone’s efforts),” the Prime Minister said. He said the Jal Jeevan Abhiyan was not just a government scheme, but a scheme run by the community, for the community. Many states will join Goa in achieving this mission soon, he added.

Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, the Union Minister for Jal Shakti, and Pramod Sawant, the Chief Minister of Goa, attended the event in Panaji.

According to PM, about 16 crore rural households were reliant on alternative water sources when Modi announced the Jal Jeevan Mission. He said a large population could not continue to struggle. He claimed that the Har Ghar Jal Mission is encouraged by four crucial pillars: the involvement of the general public, stakeholder collaboration, political will, and optimal resource utilisation.
