The Narendra Modi led central government launched the e-SHRAM portal today, August 26, 2021. The e-SHRAM portal will work as a national database for unorganised workers and linking them with various social security schemes.

Things to know about e-Shram portal:
- Through the e-Shram portal, the government aims to register 38 crore unorganised workers.
- The whole purpose of this portal is to provide social security schemes of the government to people who otherwise cannot benefit from it. It's like one-card access to everything.
- As part of the initiative, the workers will be issued an e-Shram card containing a 12 digit unique number.
- A worker can register using his/her Aadhaar card number and bank account details, apart from filling other necessary details like date of birth, home town, mobile number, and social category.
- After the launch, that's from now, workers of the unorganized sector can register themselves for it.
The categories of unorganised workers that will be covered are as follows:
- 1) Construction workers
- 2) Migrant workers
- 3) Gig and platform workers
- 4) Street vendors
- 5) Domestic workers
- 6) Agriculture workers
- 7) Other unorganised workers
Earlier, on August 24, Bhupender Yadav, Minister for Labour and Employment had unveiled the logo of e-SHRAM portal.

ANI reported that at the logo launch event, the Labour Minister said, "Targeted identification of the unorganised workers was a much-needed step and the portal which will be the national database of our nation builders, our Shram yogis, will help take welfare schemes to their doorstep, who are the builders of the nation."
