Grok AI: The Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has directed X, a social media platform, to urgently undertake a thorough procedural, technical and governance-level review of its Grok chatbot.
The decision was taken Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi raised an alarm in a letter to IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Priyanka said the Grok AI chatbot has been used inappropriately by users to alter or undress clothing in women’s photos.
What has IT Ministry told about Grok AI?
The IT Ministry directed Elon Musk’X to take urgent, corrective action on Grok chatbot, including the imposition of restrictions on content generation involving sexualization, sexually explicit, nudity or otherwise unlawful material.
The IT ministry has given an ultimate of 72 hours to X to submit a detailed action report, detailing the steps taken. This would include steps taken to prevent the dissemination or hosting of content that is deemed pornographic, indecent, obscene, pedophilic, vulgar or otherwise prohibited under law.
The order included a stringent warning that any failure to comply could jeopardize the “safe harbour” practices of X. The safe harbour practices of X owned by Elon Musk provide it legal liability immunity for user-generated content under the laws of India.
“It is reiterated that non-compliance with the above requirements shall be viewed seriously and may result in strict legal consequences against your platform, its responsible officers and the users on the platform who violate the law, without any further notice,” the order warned.
French Report Against Grok
In a statement, French ministers reported to prosecutors that Elon Musk’s AI artificial intelligence chatbot Grok is generating sexually explicit content. It was also remarked by French ministers that the same has been reported to French media regulator Arcom for checks on whether this “disgusting” content complied with the European Union’s Digital Services Act.
