Gujarat Assembly Election: The Gujarat Assembly elections will be held in two phases on December 1 and 5, according to the Election Commission. The results, along with Himachal Pradesh, will be announced on December 8.

This year, about 4.9 crore voters are eligible to vote. More than 51,000 polling booths will be put up, with more than 34,000 in rural areas. The Centre has sent 160 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces to the state ahead of the elections.

The 182-member state Assembly's term expires on February 18, 2023. The Model Code of Conduct will take effect in Gujarat after the election dates are announced today.

Before announcing the schedule, the Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar expresses condolences for the victims of the Morbi bridge collapse.

BJP vs AAP in Gujarat Assembly Election

The struggle for Gujarat has heated up, with the BJP and the AAP emerging as the top two contenders. In 2017, the BJP won 99 of the 182 seats, while the Congress won 77. The ruling party is attempting to earn its sixth consecutive term in the home state of Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

This time, the Congress has stated that it is optimistic of winning and that its door-to-door campaign has received a positive reaction. The party has warned voters against voting for AAP and the Asaduddin Owaisi-led AIMIM, referring to them as the BJP’s “B squads.”

The ruling party, on the other hand, nevertheless has a formidable election machinery and a large support base. Gujarat elections are also a prestige war for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, and the BJP will go to any length to guarantee victory in the state.
