Gujarat Assembly Election: EC To Announce Election Schedule At Noon Today

Gujarat Assembly Election: The Election Commission will declare the dates for the Gujarat Assembly elections at noon today. The long-awaited declaration for the high-stakes poll in the BJP's stronghold comes in the aftermath of the Morbi bridge collapse, which killed 135 people.

The BJP, which has ruled the state for nearly 25 years, is on the defensive after the aftermath of the bridge collapse revealed glaring flaws, placing the Bhupendra Patel regime in a bind.

The Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), boosted by its landslide victory in Punjab earlier this year, is working hard to establish itself as a major participant in Gujarat's political landscape.

Gujarat Assembly Election

At 12 p.m. today, the Election Commission will announce the schedule for the upcoming Gujarat Assembly Election. To announce the schedule, the EC has organised a news conference.

The struggle for Gujarat has heated up, with the BJP and the AAP emerging as the top two contenders. In 2017, the BJP won 99 of the 182 seats, while the Congress won 77. The ruling party is attempting to earn its sixth consecutive term in the home state of Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

This time, the Congress has stated that it is optimistic of winning and that its door-to-door campaign has received a positive reaction. The party has warned voters against voting for AAP and the Asaduddin Owaisi-led AIMIM, referring to them as the BJP's "B squads."

The ruling party, on the other hand, nevertheless has a formidable election machinery and a large support base. Gujarat elections are also a prestige war for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, and the BJP will go to any length to guarantee victory in the state.
