Gunbattle with terrorists underway in J&K’s Rajouri day after 5 Army jawans killed

On Saturday morning, during the ongoing encounter in the Kandi forest area of the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, one terrorist was killed and another was probably injured. A day after five Army personnel were killed in an explosion set off by terrorists in Rajouri, Jammu & Kashmir, there was a new gunfight.

“One terrorist has been killed and another injured in operation in J-K’s Rajouri,” the Indian Army said in a statement.

“In the ongoing joint operation in Kandi forest, Rajouri sector, by Indian Army in coordination with Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF, at around 7 am the cordon, while closing in, spotted and pinned down the terrorists.

“In the ensuing gunbattle one terrorist has been neutralised and one terrorist is likely to be injured,” a defence spokesperson said.

In a Saturday clash with security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district, a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant was killed, according to the police. A cordon and search operation was started after receiving information regarding the presence of terrorists in the Baramulla area of Karhama Kunzer, a police officer said.

After militants opened fire on the responding soldiers, it developed into an encounter.

The official reported that one insurgent was killed in the exchange of fire.

“Killed terrorist identified as Abid Wani, resident of Yarhol Babapora in Kulgam, linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT. Incriminating materials, one AK-47 rifle recovered,” Kashmir Zone Police said in a tweet.

After security forces and militants in the Rajouri district made contact, more gunfire broke out. This is a component of a larger operation to flush out militants in the Rajouri sector’s Kandi forest.

The speaker continued, “The operation is underway.”

The security personnel found one AK56, four AK magazines, 56 AK rounds, a handgun with a magazine, and other items.

The security forces in Rajouri’s Kandi forest zone are facing major challenges due to the heavy rains and bad weather.

A defence spokesperson said that contact was made with terrorists who were hiding around 1.15 am on Saturday, and that when the last reports were received, the shooting between the two sides was still going on.

The joint action team of security forces, which resulted in the death of one terrorist and the probable injury of another, included members of the 9 Para Special Forces. Operations have begun, according to security officials. Five people were lost in the operation on May 5 for Para SF.

The anti-terror operation was started to apprehend the terrorists who carried out a recent attack on the army in Poonch that resulted in the deaths of five soldiers.

“An encounter is underway in Kandi forest in Rajouri. Contact has been established with terrorists,” PRO Defence Jammu had said in a statement.
