Gurugram: Couple who tortured teenage domestic worker fired from jobs

Gurugram: The couple arrested in Gurugram for allegedly torturing and sexually abusing a 17-year-old domestic help have been terminated from their jobs. The public relations agency where the woman worked and the insurance company where her husband was employed announced their termination on Twitter. The placement agency through which the girl was hired is being searched for by the police.

The victim, who is from Ranchi in Jharkhand, was rescued by the police and the Sakhi centre, who filed a complaint alleging the couple made her work long hours and beat her mercilessly on a daily basis.

Accused Gurugram Couple fired from jobs

An official from Jharkhand Bhawan in Delhi visited the victim in the hospital. The insurance company where Manish Khattar was employed tweeted that it upholds high ethical and moral conduct. Kamaljeet too worked in a PR company, and she has been fired from her job on immediate basis.

The FIR against the couple includes charges under sections 323 (causing hurt), 342 (wrongful confinement), and provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act and the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The victim stated that she was stripped naked, subjected to torture with heated iron tongs, and humiliated on a daily basis. She was also confined and not allowed to talk to her family.

Couple hired the girl five months ago

Manish Khattar and Kamaljeet Kaur, the couple arrested for torturing and sexually abusing a minor domestic help, are facing serious accusations. Khattar, who is in police custody, claimed that he hired the girl five months ago to care for his daughter and found the placement agency online. However, the girl’s harrowing experience paints a different picture as she suffered daily beatings and humiliation.

In response to the scandal, the Jharkhand Chief Minister’s Office has requested the Haryana chief minister and the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights to step in and support the young victim’s rehabilitation. The couple’s actions have resulted in their termination from their respective jobs and a criminal investigation is underway.
