Heavy Rain: PM Modi Speaks With Himachal, Uttarakhand CM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday spoke to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu and took stock of the damage caused in the state due to excessive rains that have led to floods.

He also spoke to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and assured all possible help to both the Chief Ministers to deal with the flood-like situation in their respective states.

According to official sources, Sukhu informed the Prime Minister that the floods caused by excessive rains for the past three days have caused extensive damage to the state and sought assistance from the Center in the form of an economic package.

Modi is said to have assured them of all possible central help and assistance to deal with the crisis

Sukhu also informed the Prime Minister that the state government was closely monitoring the situation in Himachal Pradesh.

During their conversation, Sukhu told Modi that the region has been receiving incessant rains, causing severe flooding and landslides, besides damaging roads, water and power supplies.

Official sources said the disaster in Himachal Pradesh claimed 17 lives and caused large-scale destruction, with property worth thousands of crores washed away.

Earlier on Monday, the Prime Minister reviewed the flood-like situation prevailing in various states like Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir and spoke to several Union ministers.
